Travellers queue to buy tickets at Beijing Railway Station February 4,
2007. China's railway system is expected to carry some 155 million people
over the upcoming Chinese New Year period, the most ever, as people flood
home for the traditional festival, a senior official said. That record
number -- equivalent to more than the entire population of Russia -- could
be attributed to the government's decision not to raise ticket prices as
it normally would over the holiday, said railway ministry spokesman Wang
Yongping. [Reuters] |
