GUANGZHOU — Customs in the southern metropolis of Guangzhou have detained 14 people in connection with a smuggling case involving frozen seafood.
Customs staff have confiscated 20 tonnes of the products worth 100 million yuan ($15.8 million).
An investigation began after police received a tip-off in the first half of 2017. The suspects brought pomfret, mackerel and white prawns from Ecuador, Indonesia and some African countries to the Chinese mainland.
The customs sent 100 police officers to seize the suspects in cities including Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Wuhan in January.
