China is committed to Paris Agreement climate goals: Regulator

China will continue to make a commitment to fulfill its climate goals as pledged in the Paris Agreement on climate change, a senior official with the nation's top economic regulator said on Saturday.
"The Paris Agreement reflects the common will of the global community. China will look to further cooperate with other countries to continue to push the pact forward, although there is a country (the United States) having decided to quit," Li Gao, head of the Climate Change Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, said during the China Development Forum.
He said China's carbon trade market, which opened as scheduled last year, will be used as a policy tool to encourage enterprises to lower carbon emissions.
He added that introduction of financial products, such as carbon futures, is not in the cards, and China does not welcome speculative transactions.
