Ministry: Concerns over latest US Section 301 report

China expressed serious concerns over the latest update of the Section 301 report by the United States, said Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
At the weekly press briefing, Gao Feng, the ministry's spokesman, said the accusation the US made in the newly updated Section 301 report against China was groundless.
"China has emphasized many times that the investigation and measures the US took are based on its domestic laws and are to implement unilateralism and protectionism, which has violated every promise it has made to the World Trade Organization members and has ignored and vandalized the rules and regulations," he said.
"The so-called update (of the report) was a new round of groundless accusations against China and China will not accept it," he said.
In an answer to a question referring to the newly proposed scrutiny over technology exports in 14 key high-tech areas by the US, Gao said that China is currently evaluating the impact of such a proposal.
"We think national security can be achieved under an open market," he said. "To generalize the national security issue in order to set up unnecessary trade barriers will do no good to national security or balanced development of trade."
Gao also said both work teams from China and the US are still in close contact to implement the mutual understanding achieved by the two countries' leaders earlier this month during a phone call.
