Vehicle registration transfer to go online in China

BEIJING - Starting June 1, residents in 120 Chinese cities will be able to have their vehicle registration files changed and transfered online if they want to change their vehicle's registration location, the Ministry of Public Security said Friday.
This is among the government's reform efforts to delegate power, improve regulation, and upgrade services by the traffic management authorities to provide better services to the people.
Applications for vehicle examinations can be directly submitted to the authorities at the new city where the vehicle is intended to be registered, and a similar examination doesn't need to be conducted for the same vehicle at its previous registration city, the ministry said.
In the past, the process was very troublesome, requiring vehicle owners to go back and forth between the two places for de-registration and re-registration.
The implementation of this reform was first piloted in 15 cities last June and proved to be very popular among people.
