Mainland records 39 new confirmed coronavirus cases, one death


A total of 39 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and one death were reported on Sunday on the Chinese mainland, bringing the two numbers to 81,708 and 3,331, respectively, statistics from the National Health Commission show on Monday.
The new fatality occurred in Hubei province, the commission said, adding there were another 10 new suspected cases reported Sunday, all from abroad. A total of 88 people are still suspected of being infected with the virus, and there are 1,299 confirmed cases across the country.
For newly confirmed cases, 38 were imported from abroad and the south province Guangdong reported one local case.
As of Sunday, China had 951 imported confirmed cases. As per data, 258 of them have been cured and discharged from hospital, and 22 are still in severe condition. There are also 88 suspected cases imported from abroad across the country.
Regarding asymptomatic cases, the official data showed there were 78 new such cases reported on Sunday, 40 of which were imported from abroad. Five asymptomatic cases were confirmed on Sunday, all from abroad. A total of 1,047 asymptomatic-infected patients, including 257 from abroad, are still under medical observation. Fifty such patients were released from the observation on Sunday.
On Sunday, 114 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while the number of severe cases decreased by 30 to 265. A total of 77,078 people had been discharged from hospitals after recovery as of Sunday.
Health authorities on the mainland have traced 713,988 people with close contact with confirmed patients. Among them, 2,151 were discharged from medical observation Sunday, with 16,154 others still under observation.
By the end of Sunday, 890 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in Hong Kong, 44 confirmed cases in Macao and 363 in Taiwan including five deaths. And 206 patients in Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 54 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
Hubei, the hardest-hit province on the Chinese mainland, reported zero new confirmed cases and suspected cases on Sunday. The province also has zero suspected cases at present.
As of Sunday, a total of 67,803 confirmed cases and 3,212 deaths have been reported in Hubei. It still has 577 confirmed cases, including 234 in severe condition.
The province also saw 69 patients discharged from hospital after recovery on Sunday, bringing the total number of discharged patients in the province to 64,014.
