China's economic development plans have been drafted every five years since 1953. Like the previous ones, the next five-year plan will lay out the country's economic path based on a set of development goals. But the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) will also be the first after China realizes its goal of xiaokang, or building a moderately well-off society in all respects, which will pave the way for it to build a modern socialist country.
