Major building projects in Beijing underway

Construction is underway on as many as 100 major projects that were scheduled to be launched in the second quarter, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission announced on Tuesday.

The projects, supported by a total investment of 83.9 billion yuan ($12.95 billion), include school campuses, hospitals, stadiums, wetlands, parks and some manufacturing facilities.

Fixed-asset investment for the first five months this year in Beijing was up 12.9 percent year-on-year, according to the government. High-tech manufacturing stood out, with investment increasing by 35 percent over the same period last year.
