Shanghai holds municipal conference for CPC centenary

Shanghai held a municipal conference to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China on Thursday. The conference came following a grand ceremony held at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing to mark the historic day.

Li Qiang, Party secretary of Shanghai, birthplace of the CPC, required all Party members to earnestly study the remarks made by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, at the ceremony in Beijing on Thursday and put it into practice.

"We'll unwaveringly uphold the Party's leadership, deepen theoretical learning, construct the city for the people, stick to the first priority of development, deepen reform and opening-up and promote Party construction," Li said.

"Shanghai will support the country to strive to create new miracles that astound the world," he said.

Li encouraged all Party members in Shanghai to restart at the new historical point and walk well on the new Long March in the new era, with the ultimate goal of realizing the Chinese nation's rejuvenation.

Shanghai's appearance and character have undergone profound changes over the past decades, Li said. Today's Shanghai is the country's largest business hub, as well as an important window for China to be involved in the world and for the world to observe China, he said.

"All the achievements and changes happening in the city came from the strong CPC leadership and the continuous fight from generations of CPC members," Li said.

At the conference chaired by Gong Zheng, deputy Party secretary of Shanghai and mayor, city leaders presented awards to outstanding CPC members, CPC affairs workers and grassroots Party organizations.

Lyu Xilin, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor from the College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University, and Wang Juli, head nurse of the department of respiratory and critical care medicine at Zhongshan Hospital's Qingpu branch, delivered speeches at the conference on behalf of awarded Party members.
