Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called on Sunday for concrete efforts to push for better performance of the Chinese economy, with an emphasis on stabilizing growth, employment and prices.

Li made the remark while taking part in a deliberation on the Government Work Report with his fellow deputies from Yunnan province at the first session of the 14th National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature.

He said that proper measures to prevent and control COVID-19 must be continued after optimization of response measures, and urged efforts to expand domestic demand, advance scientific and technological innovation and accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system.

Efforts should be made to ensure and improve people's well-being, promote employment of young people, particularly university graduates, and consolidate the achievements in poverty alleviation, Li said.

He underlined the need to deepen reform and opening-up, and build a market-oriented and world-class business environment governed by a sound legal framework.

Li called on Yunnan province to make new progress in promoting ethnic unity and ecological conservation, and in building a hub connecting China with South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Zhao Leji, Wang Huning and Li Xi, as well as Vice-Premier Han Zheng, also participated in the deliberations on the Government Work Report with their fellow NPC deputies on Sunday afternoon.

During discussions with NPC deputies from Sichuan province, Zhao Leji said that NPC deputies shoulder serious political responsibilities, and they should uphold the overall leadership of the Party, faithfully represent the interests and will of the people and exercise State power in line with the law.

He urged all NPC deputies to act as a bridge between the people and the Party and the State, be strict with themselves and fulfill the glorious mission of being a lawmaker.

Speaking with the deputies from Guizhou province, Wang Huning called for advancing Chinese modernization, promoting high-quality development and striving to write a new chapter in Guizhou's efforts to promote modernization.

Efforts should be made to consolidate and expand the achievements in poverty relief, advance rural vitalization, consistently promote ecological conservation, ensure and improve people's well-being, and step up development in the regions with ethnic minority groups, Wang said.

While deliberating with his fellow deputies from Shandong province, Han Zheng said this year marks the start of the implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress.

He underlined the importance of faithfully carrying out the decisions and policies of the CPC Central Committee, and urged concrete steps to prioritize stability while working to make progress.

Efforts should be made to coordinate development and security, adhere to the people-centered development philosophy and advance common prosperity, Han added.

While participating in a deliberation with NPC deputies from Fujian, Li Xi urged the province to fully and faithfully implement the decisions of the CPC Central Committee on the province's work; fully play its role in serving and integrating the nation's new development paradigm; leverage its strength in regional development and the resources it has; and strive to make new achievements in promoting the province's development.

Li Xi, who is also secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the CPC's top anti-corruption body, required departments of disciplinary inspection and supervision to faithfully assume their duties entrusted by the Party Constitution and the country's Constitution, and ensure the effective implementation of the decisions and policies of the 20th CPC National Congress.
