The medical faculty members at Chinese University of Hong Kong and Guangzhou's Nansha district health bureau signed a framework agreement to advance medical cooperation in the months to come.

Under the agreement, both sides will establish a close consultation and cooperation mechanism to build a high-end medical talent training and research innovation platform in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Both sides will further promote resource integration and attract and aggregate talent from Hong Kong and Macao, and boost the coordinated development of medical and health services between Nansha and Hong Kong, with complementary advantages and mutual benefits, it said.

Meanwhile the agreement will help set up a new channel for Nansha to introduce a Hong Kong-style medical service system and excellent medical talent from Hong Kong, while deepening cooperation between Guangzhou and Hong Kong in medical services.

The medical faculty at CUHK will fully utilize the huge data and case support of the 80 million population in the Greater Bay Area to strengthen medical research and training and introduce cutting-edge innovative medical research results to better serve Hong Kong and Macao residents.

The agreement will also prompt better integration of Hong Kong into the overall development of the mainland.

Nansha will also use the cooperation platform to introduce high-quality Hong Kong-style hospital management experience, promote mutual recognition of inspection results between the two regions and explore cross-border referral and transfer pilot projects.

The agreement will also help accelerate the development of the biopharmaceutical industry and the transformation of scientific research achievements in the GBA, while exploring high-level integrated development of medical care in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

To expand medical cooperation, CUHK's medical faculty also sent a large group — 40 people — on Wednesday to visit Nansha for on-site investigation and to discuss the expansion of cooperation with the emerging Nansha district, located at the mouth of the Pearl River.
