Youth unemployment rate improves in China

The employment situation of Chinese youths is seeing signs of improvement as their unemployment rate is in consecutive decreased in the past few months.

The National Bureau of Statistics recently unveiled the figures, showing that the surveyed unemployment rate of youths aged between 16 and 24 was lowered to 15.7 percent in December from 16.1 percent in November. The number once reached a high point of 18.8 percent in August.

Young people aged between 25 and 29 also saw their surveyed unemployment rate dropping last month, which was 6.6 percent in December — 0.1 percentage point lower than that in November. These calculations didn’t include students in school.

According to the NBS, the surveyed unemployment rate in urban areas last month was 5.1 percent, up 0.1 percentage point from November.
