With the aid of imagination grounded in archaeological findings, they painted an ink scroll 140 meters in length and 1.8 meters in height in the style of a classical Chinese hand scroll painting.
The piece, Echoing Through the Ages: An archaeological scroll of prehistoric civilization in Hunan, made its debut in 2023 at the Hunan Art Museum in Changsha.
The painting has now been brought to Beijing, where it is on show alongside stone tools, pottery, and jade pieces from archaeological excavations in Hunan. The resulting panorama, seen through a perspective of realism and romanticism, charts the earliest stages of society in China.
