China and India should explore more substantive measures and commit to mutual understanding, support and achievement while refraining from mutual suspicion, alienation and aggression, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Wang made the remarks in a meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Beijing, which came as the two countries have been carrying out contacts at various levels in order to further improve bilateral ties since a meeting between the two heads of state in October in Kazan, Russia.

Improving and developing China-India relations conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, Wang said.

It also helps safeguard the legitimate rights of Global South countries, and contributes to peace, stability, and prosperity in Asia and the world, he said.

Misri said that India is willing to work with China to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their bilateral relationship, and will fully support China's work as the rotating chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
