The provincial leadership of Guangdong recently vowed to accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system supported by the advanced manufacturing industry to promote its high-quality development in 2025.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, laid out the province's goals during the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Provincial High-quality Development Conference in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

According to Huang, who is also the Party secretary of Guangdong, the province will concentrate efforts on AI and robotics to build new pillars of high-tech, high growth and large-scale industries this year, the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

Industrial prosperity leads to economic prosperity and a powerful country, he said.

"As the largest economic province in the country, Guangdong, a global production base, is shouldering the glorious mission of taking the lead in advancing China's modernization of the industrial system, demonstrating the endless charm of the Chinese path to modernization," said Huang.

According to Huang, Guangdong has a wide range of manufacturing industries, including traditional, emerging and future sectors. This integration has resulted in the development of eight industrial clusters, each valued at one trillion yuan or above.

Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong, said the province would spare no effort to create a market-oriented, rule-of-law-driven, internationalized and first-class business environment to accelerate the construction of world-class enterprise clusters in 2025.

According to official statistics, Guangdong will focus on developing 1,500 key construction projects with an investment of 9.2 trillion yuan ($1.26 trillion) this year.

The province reached a record-high GDP of more than 14 trillion yuan and a total foreign trade volume of more than 9.11 trillion yuan last year, representing 20.8 percent of China's total. Its total industrial output value is expected to rise to more than 20 trillion yuan in 2024.
