Provincial official in Anhui under investigation

Zhou Xi'an, vice-chairman of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.

Zhou is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, according to a statement by the commission on Thursday afternoon.

Official public information shows that Zhou was born in 1963 in Xinye county of Henan province. He joined the CPC in 1988 and started working the same year. He holds a PhD in economics.

Zhou worked in several central government ministries until 2010 when he went to Sichuan province.

In Sichuan, he served as mayor of Bazhong city and Party secretary of Ziyang city.

He became the vice-governor of Anhui province in 2018 and was reassigned as the vice-chairman of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the CPPCC in early 2023.
