China, Vietnam strengthen efforts to promote rail inter-connectivity

China and Vietnam have held multiple rounds of discussion about promoting inter-connectivity of railways between the two countries since last year, with both sides reaching several agreements, according to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides have agreed to accelerate the feasibility study of the standard gauge railway connecting Vietnam's Lao Cai, Hanoi, and Hai Phong, ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.
Guo made the remarks at a news conference after reports said Vietnam's National Assembly adopted investment for the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project.
Without making comments on the project, Guo added that China and Vietnam have also agreed to speed up planning and advancing other standard gauge railways, including one connecting Hekou Yao autonomous county in China's Yunnan province, with Vietnam's Lao Cai.
