Christie's presented a preview for the upcoming series of 20th and 21st century art auctions scheduled to take place in Hong Kong and Shanghai, showcasing a few key artworks to be under the gavel at its Shanghai space on March 4 and 5.
Among the exhibits was La Promenade au bord de la mer (The Promenade by the Sea), a painting by master Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), La clairvoyance by the Surrealist painter Rene Magritte (1898-1967), a series of paintings by Chinese French abstract artist Zao Wou-Ki (1920-2013), as well as contemporary Chinese works by Zhang Enli and Chen Ke, among others.
The series of auctions will take place in Hong Kong and Shanghai from March 28 to April 3.
"We are doing a new initiative that connects Hong Kong and Shanghai by a series of auctions for the 20th and 21st century art taking place within one week," according to Rebecca Yang Yuancao, chairman of Christie's China. "From the time arrangement to the curatorial process, we want to present the strong momentum of the market, and enhance confidence for our clients," she said in Shanghai on March 4.
