Publishing industry is reading into growing international cooperation

To propel Chinese publishing to new international heights, the 2025 National Conference on International Cooperation for Press and Publishing Units convened in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region from March 4 to 7.

The event, themed "New Mission, New Challenges, New Landscape", gathered over 260 representatives from the publishing industry nationwide to explore fresh avenues for international collaboration.

Xie Aiwei, executive vice-president of the China Publication and Promotion Association, said in a speech that currently, China's publishing industry abroad is encountering significant opportunities like deeper implementation of regional comprehensive economic partnership agreements and the strengthening of cultural ties through the Belt and Road Initiative. There is an urgent need to tackle modern challenges such as building international influence and enhancing cross-cultural communication effectiveness, she added.

Li Laiyou, president of Guangxi Publishing Media Group, introduced the group's efforts in international cooperation. Rooted in traditional Chinese culture, the group is building an international talent team and establishing overseas branches. At the same time, leveraging Guangxi's proximity to ASEAN, it has forged close cooperation with well-known overseas publishing organizations to create a platform for copyright trade services, he said.

Throughout the conference, experts from leading institutions such as CITIC Press and Foreign Languages Press delved into topics like navigating the AI era and publishing themes related to the Belt and Road Initiative. The event also featured an exhibition area showcasing innovative international cooperation models and offered insights from visits to Guangxi Normal University Publishing Group.

In addition, recognitions and awards were presented to inspire industry players toward innovative development.
