Former senior national legislator prosecuted for bribery

BEIJING -- A public prosecution has been initiated against Li Yuefeng, formerly a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, on bribery charges.
Following the designation by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), the Taiyuan Municipal People's Procuratorate in North China's Shanxi province recently filed a lawsuit against him with the Intermediate People's Court of Taiyuan, according to an SPP statement released Tuesday.
The lawsuit follows the conclusion of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision into the case of Li, also former executive vice chairperson of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.
According to prosecutors, Li had exploited his various positions to secure benefits for others and accept an extremely large amount of bribes.
