Cummins Inc said it has received an order from Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd (BPT) for 1,400 Cummins Euro IV-compliant diesel engines and 250 Cummins Westport Euro III-compliant compressed natural gas engines to power public buses in Beijing.

Following the order, Cummins and Cummins Westport - a joint venture between Cummins and Westport Innovations - will power more than 13,000 of State-owned BPT's 24,000-bus fleet.

The order is part of BPT's fleet upgrade plan in advance of the 2008 Olympic Games.

"This is the largest order of Euro IV diesels in the Chinese bus market... these efforts will continue to contribute to the air quality improvement in Beijing," Cummins' vice president of emerging markets Steve Chapman said in a statement.
