Packed agenda for NATO summit

BRUSSELS/BEIJING - The state and government heads of NATO members are discussing their 10-year agenda, the organization's presence in Afghanistan, a possible Europe missile defense system and cooperation with Russia at their two-day summit in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Lisbon summit started on Friday afternoon with working dinners for the heads of state and government, foreign ministers and defense ministers. On Saturday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen are scheduled to sign a declaration and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will take part in a joint press conference with them. Meanwhile, the NATO-Russia Council Meeting at the level of heads of state and government was also due to take place.

In addition, the US-Europe summit is scheduled for Saturday.
