China's national curling championships kicks off (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-04-13 09:15 China's national curling
championships kicked off Tuesday morning in the city of Changchun, capital of
Jilin Province in the northeast of China.
It's the first time for the city to hold China's national curling
championships. There are 12 participating teams, mainly from Heilongjiang
Province and Beijing.
Curling, an ancient sports game originated in Scotland, has only a short
history in China. According to the director of referees Wang Ke, who is also a
professor in Harbin Institute of Technology, China began to hold its national
curling championships in 1997.
Curling will be a medal event in the 2007 Winter Asian Games, which is to be
held in Changchun.
The championships is scheduled to finish for Friday.
