Altogether 2,747 street lamps have been installed along Huandao (Island Ring) Road in Pingtan county, Southeast China's Fujian, and will go into service in May, Pingtan Times reported Monday.

The construction workers just wrapped the big project on April 4.

"We've heard that there is going to be heavy rain on April 5. So we hurried up efforts to pour concrete in the bases of the lamps to consolidate the lamp brackets," said Mr Zhang, a worker from Sichuan.

"All of the street lamps have been installed," he added.

As many as 1,385 street lamps, each measuring 12 meters high, have been erected on the main road, while the other 1,362 are stationed along the side road.

The German-produced street lamps, which boast excellent quality, long lifespan and dazzling illumination, are expected to give out light in mid-to-late May, according to a person in charge of the project.

The sidewalks along Huandao Road have also been spruced up with newly-paved red-yellow-green tiles.

"They (the tiles) are permeable, which will keep the road from flooding on rainy days. The water can penetrate down into the earth, which is good for the growth of trees as well," said Xue Xuebing, director of the road's construction management office.
