On April 19, the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province, signed a deal worth 3 billion yuan ($485 million) with TPK Holding, a leading manufacturer of touch screens in Taiwan.

According to the agreement, TPK will establish a new subsidiary, namely TPK Pingtan (TPKP), near Jinjing Bay with a registered capital of $150 million and a total investment of 3 billion yuan, Pingtan Times reported on Monday, April 22.

Project construction has begun and is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

TPK is the world's largest touch panel maker. The company's touch screens are used in smart phones, tablet PCs, notebook PCs, electronic books and other consumer electronics.

As the Chinese mainland's first pilot zone opening up to Taiwan, Pingtan has been enjoying preferential policies from the central government, which helps it attract investments from Taiwan.

As of April 8, a total of 101 Taiwan-invested enterprises have settled in the county, with an aggregate investment of up to $318 million.
