The 11th China Cross-Straits Technology and Project Fair (CSTPF) is slated to kick off in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, between June 18 and 20, attracting attention from residents across the Taiwan Straits.

The layout of the exhibition hall, or Cross-Straits Exhibition Center in Fuzhou, is fully realized, reported the Fujian branch of China News Service.

According to its report on Friday, a large gray whale specimen – 13.9 meters long and 24 tons in weight – was transferred from Xiamen city in the province and is one of the most anticipated items.

The whale was stranded and later suffocated to death on a beach in Pingtan county in 2011 before it was made into a specimen and kept at a research institution in Xiamen, according to staff members.

"It was the first ever gray whale found in Fujian province. The specimen is on its first exhibition in Fuzhou for science promotion," said a worker from the State Ocean Administration.

The transfer wasn't an easy task due to its large size, as workers had to disassemble the 112 bones cautiously before the move and put them back together in the exhibition hall.

Scores of living marine creatures will also be on display with the giant whale specimen at the No 7 exhibition zone at the fair.

A 220-square-meter garden at the No 4 zone will showcase a variety of green plants bred with new technologies.

Growing a small patch of rice at home will probably become fashionable after the exhibition as scientists have bred a new kind of rice that has been taken to outer space by the Shenzhou-VII spacecraft.

Researchers also developed magical potions to cure damaged tree roots, which will greatly reduce the cost of traditional human-induced restoration, said an exhibitor.

A "Taiwan Intelligent Life" pavilion will roll out many interesting high-tech products such as 3D printers, an integrated platform for food and medicine resources, an interactive teaching system as well as a long-distance classroom supported by cloud technology.

Being one of the largest cross-Straits fairs, the CSTPF serves as a platform of technical innovation and as a major exhibition for effective linkage among project, technology, capital and human resources. The fair seeks to promote the commercialization of research findings and improve comprehensive economic quality.
