An inspection team from the Transport Ministry, headed by vice minister He Jianzhong, visited Pingtan on Monday to investigate its development.

The team toured the Haixia high-speed passenger terminal, a county planning museum, an integrated underground pipe ditch along Tanxi Road, a petty trade market, and Jidiao wharf.

Pingtan should take advantage of its port resources to boost marine traffic and map out a long-term development plan, said He.

He also urged local authorities to pay attention to safety measures concerning the Haixia, a high-speed passenger ferry sailing between Pingtan and Taichung in Taiwan.
