A wholesale fruit market in Pingtan county will start operation on Sept 8, and workers are performing final touches to the interior decoration, according to the market constructors.
Liu Daowei, a manager at the China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Ltd, also said on July 11 that a fruit trade fair will be held on the first day of the market's operation.
Liu added that the construction of a petty trade market - which will be open to residents and business people from Pingtan and Taiwan - is also underway, and is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Wu Guojun, a supervisor of the fruit market project, said the fruit market and petty trade market are set to become part of a large Taiwan-oriented service center, taking advantage of transportation by Haixia, a high-speed passenger ferry service that operates between Pingtan and Taichung in Taiwan.
