Tropical storm Cimaron didn't deal much of a blow to Pingtan county in eastern Fujian province, said local weather authorities.
Cimaron, the eighth tropical storm to hit China this year, landed in coastal Zhangpu county in the city of Zhangzhou at 8:30 pm, reaching a wind speed of 72 km per hour.
Although Cimaron is not a strong storm and the heavy rainfall didn't last long, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of rain-triggered disasters. The provincial flood control office has warned regions to guard against floods, landslides and mud-rock flows on Thursday afternoon.
"Because Cimaron landed in the southern area of Fujian, it didn't influence Pingtan much. It will only bring slight precipitation to Pingtan," said Wen Zuyuan, a senior engineer with the local meteorological bureau.
About five to six tropical storms are expected to hit or influence Pingtan this year, less than an average year, according to the bureau's forecast.
