Xingfu Bay hosts labor skills contest

Construction workers took part in a special labor skills competition at Xingfu Bay in Pingtan county of Fujian province on July 19.

The Xingfu Bay Project is a blowing sand reclamation project in the north of Pingtan Island.

Crew members from two sand-blowing boats showed off their skills in a variety of games, including knot-tying, line heaving and steel wire insertion.

The competition is part of a response to Pingtan government's call to "promote Pingtan spirit and strive for first-class projects".

"Through the games, we get a better understanding of the workers' skill levels, which helps us to organize relative trainings. At the same time, the games also enhance their capabilities of study and practice, creating a sound environment for learning and competition," said Chen Jianzhong, the man responsible for the project.

The competition is held once every month. Last year, a cutter-suction dredger, Huatai Dragon, broke the national records in five programs of the competition. Another vessel, Hua'an Dragon, has set new records several times for the longest distance of sand blowing several times, said Chen.

"The competition hopes to help crew members from the two vessels see the gap between them, and thus learn from each other and ultimately boost production," he added.
