A large joint campaign to clamp down on smuggling activities in Pingtan, a county island in Fujian province, has kicked off, according to a working meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
A special inspection team made up of personnel from multiple government departments in Pingtan will combat smuggling in three phases until the end of the year.
The campaign,?a response to instructions by national and provincial anti-smuggling meetings in July, will beef up marine patrol and land supervision and will crack down on smuggling of guns, drugs, disqualified tax-related goods, endangered animals and plants, and other illegal items, said Chen Changming, director of the local public security bureau.
