The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has selected 140 new recruits out of 323 candidates including both men and women from the county of Pingtan, following a probation period lasting one month, the local armed forces department said on September 10.

The new recruits include 59 college students and graduates, or 42 percent of the total.

The local conscription office said that Pingtan has exceeded the recruitment target of 120 men.
