Tongren has received increasing recognition and fame thanks to its deep Buddhist roots. The number of tourists and tourism revenue in Tongren has grown significantly in recent years. From January to September 2013, the total number of tourists visiting the Fanjing Mountain scenic areas reached 14.74 million, creating 11.59 billion yuan ($1.90 billion) in revenue.
Fu Yingchun, administer of the Guizhou Tourism Bureau, suggested during the second Tourism Development Forum of Tongren that Tongren should make full use of its transportation network and build its unique model of "come easy, go slowly."
Tongren should create more travel options and routes to increase its scenic areas' competitive power. Liu Qifan, municipal Party secretary of Tongren, suggested that Fanjing Mountain should be branded as a famous tourist destination both at home and abroad. He also emphasized the importance of the natural environment and resources in the development of Tongren's tourism.
