On June 25, postcards congratulating the 400th anniversary of the birth of Gu Yanwu, a famous ideologist during the Ming Dynasty (1368-16344), were first issued in Gu's hometown of Qiandeng, Jiangsu province.
The commemorative postcards were specially issued by China Post in Jiangsu province. One set includes one postcard, with 0.8 yuan ($0.13) postage. The postage stamp measures 2.7 centimeters in length and 3.6 centimeters in width and features Gu's image.?The postcard is worth 1.2 yuan ($0.20), measuring 16.5 cm long and 11.5 cm wide. A total of 85,000 sets were issued. The sets of postcards are being sold at appointed post offices.
The special postcards were one of the commemorative activities put on by Qiandeng. The city received more than 200 stamp collectors. At the same time, the sponsor also invited the postcard designer to give autographs to visitors. So far, 450 sets of postcards and booklets have been sold.
