A joint inspection of 159 schools and kindergartens in Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province have been carried out by government departments of public health, food and medicine, industry and commerce, and education.
The inspection focuses on food safety and disease prevention.
All 174 canteens of the schools and kindergartens are licensed, according to the results. A total of 1,168 inspection workers from the canteens have health licenses.
However, in some canteens, containers of raw and cooked food materials were not separated. Food samples were not kept well, and tableware sterilization did not meet standards.
A total of 142 schools have disease prevention records. A total of 92 schools have begun collecting physical examination results of students and inputting the information into a system.
A total of 78 schools, which are responsible for reporting student sick leaves online, have set up a reporting process. Health conditions of 101,023 students are being monitored, accounting for 98.5 percent of the total.
Some schools do not have enough health teachers, and disease prevention procedures are not standardized.
Government departments have urged the schools to perfect their health management system and regulate daily operations.
