Egypt's prosecutor-general resigns

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-07-09 19:42

CAIRO - Egypt's Prosecutor-General Abdel- Maguid Mahmoud, who was recently reinstated, officially resigned and demanded he should return to the judiciary institution as a judge, official news agency MENA reported on Tuesday.

He asserted that from the moment he submitted his resignation, he has nothing to do with the prosecution general post or any of its decisions, MENA said.

Mahmoud, who was dismissed by a controversial constitutional declaration by deposed President Mohamed Morsi on November 21, 2012, returned to his post under a ruling on July 2 by the Court of Cassation.

However, he asked on Friday to return to the judiciary institution as a judge, citing "uneasiness" he felt about the prosecution's future decisions towards those who sacked him, referring to some figures related to the Muslim Brotherhood, with which Morsi was affiliated.
