Local election candidate shot dead in Kosovo

PRISTINA - A member of the Kosovo police shot dead on Saturday afternoon a local candidate for Kosovo's municipal elections scheduled on Sunday ?in the town of Srbica in central Kosovo, police sources said.

Bekim Birinxhiku, 38, was seriously wounded by the gunshot and died later from injuries.

The Kosovo police have confirmed that the shooter was a member of the police who was not on duty at the time of the incident.

The police have arrested the shooter and are investigating the motives of the incident.
