The State Council says China will not raise prices of electric power, natural gas or oil products in the near future. And the government has announced other new measures to ensure stable consumer prices.

The government also says it will not raise the prices of public services such as transportation and medical services as well as school tuition.

And China will take measures to stabilize prices of essential goods. Manufacturers must apply to the government in advance concerning any price changes for these goods.

Law enforcement to regulate the market and consumer prices will also be strengthened.

The latest report from the State Council shows the surge of global prices of primary resources is continuing to put pressure on the domestic market. China's pork and grain production continues to increase. And the storage of basic industrial materials meets market demand.

The Consumer Price Index rose along with the prices, to an 11-year high of 6.9 percent in November. This is well above the government-set target of three percent.
